Modesto, Calif. native Lori Silva was walking out of a medical appointment for her allergies at Kaiser Permanente Modesto Medical Center when Elizabeth, a Kaiser Permanente medical assistant, literally chased her down the hall. Elizabeth had noticed in Lori’s medical record that she was past due for her yearly mammogram.
Lori was pleasantly surprised and thankful for Elizabeth’s proactive nature. When she went in for her mammogram, the results came back inconclusive. After agreeing to a follow up biopsy, Lori’s doctors found breast cancer.
Her journey wasn’t easy, but with the support of her Kaiser Permanente care team, Lori underwent successful cancer treatment. “It was Elizabeth doing her job that caught it,” said Lori. “I’m alive, I’m cancer-free, and I’m here to see my beautiful grandchildren.”
Since undergoing her treatment, Lori has seen the birth of two new grandchildren, and cherishes every day she has with them.
“If you have to go through what I went through, I am so blessed I was with Kaiser Permanente,” Lori said.
